We are Greenland: Football is Freedom tells the story of five Greenlandic footballers who, on behalf of their team and nation, dream of being accepted into the global football community. Their ultimate dream is to participate in the World Cup qualifiers under their own flag.

The Greenland Football Association has hired an ambitious management team and coach who are determined to change the conditions for both current and future players. Together they embark on a journey to prove to the football world that they are ready to compete at the highest level.

The film follows the five players and their coach. All are amateurs who play football for national pride and personal ambitions. The team has no sponsors, and the staff pays for tickets to trips and matches themselves. They represent the opposite of the commercial world of football, where financial interests dominate. Their stories are about finding identity and freedom through football.

This is an unfiltered, thought-provoking and action-packed story about nature versus glass towers, idealism versus commercialism, and ultimately – Greenland versus the world of football.
